Your body discharges an egg (ovum) about 14 days before the end of your period. At that point, the uterus lining begins to thicken. Out of millions of discharged sperms only one sperm is utilized to fertilize egg and to set the growth and development process off. Once the tail pierces through the egg, it gets separated from the head and the process of cell division commences. It takes few hours for the fertilized egg to form two cells, then four and so on. These cells are called zygote. It takes about four days for the zygote to form a group of cells known as morula.

An out layer is produced by the bunch of cells in a quick succession which later modifies into the placenta and amniotic sac. Also, an inner is produce which ends up forming the embryo. The outer layer has root-like structures that buried deep into the uterus lining act as a route to supply essential nutrients and oxygen from your body to the growing placenta and embryo.
