By the 31st week of your pregnancy, your baby will now of the size of stick of celery. Your baby is now getting more aware of the noises from inside as well as from the outside world. He notices every single move of yours such as singing, talking, exercising and so on. He is also more responsive to the light as well.
Development in 31st Week Pregnancy
At this stage all the major growth is going on in your baby’s lungs. The air sacs in your baby lungs are now began to produce a substance called surfactant. This is a kind of substance that helps preventing the tissues present in the lungs from sticking together. The production of the surfactant is one of the vital developments that your baby has made at this stage.
Appearance in 31st Week Pregnancy
Your baby has now get enough fat to look plumper than before. His dark or reddish color has almost faded away and the blood vessels are no more visible through the baby skin as the layer of the subcutaneous fats comes into place. By now the face has got its round shape with smooth skin. The accumulated fat on the baby’s body stands for 3.5% of the total bodyweight and this figure will go up to 15%.
Movement in 31st Week Pregnancy
Baby is becoming more and more active with every passing week. His responses are becoming more frequent. However, the growing size of his body is forcing him to sustain a particular position in the uterus, i.e. chin touching the chest, knees curled up and arms across the chest. With this limited space, you can still feel movements made by your baby.

I am 31 weeks pregnant and worried about having a premature baby. If I go into early labor can anything be done to stop it?
Well, it all depends on your cervix, i.e. if it has begun to expand or not. A drug is given to the women through a drip to calm the uterus and halt the tightening. On the other hand, if the cervix is expanding, you may need to undergo labor. It is highly advised to the women with the indications of premature labor that they will have two steroid injections that help maturing the lungs of the baby.
